Bob Stanton Bio

Name: Bob Stanton

City: Van Nuys

Year joined LAMS club: Shortly after inception, but don’t recall the date

How I got interested in building models: Like many, I went through a series of interests. These included ship building and railroading before settling on figures. In my travels I saw a shop with painted miniature soldiers that really piqued my interest. It was cold and I didn’t have much to do in the evenings so I gave it a try. The figures I saw in the window were Napoleonic and their multi –colored uniforms captured my fancy. I was hooked! That was more than 30years ago. I have been at it ever since.

First model I ever built: I remember carving animals in soap in grammar school, but after that it is all a blur over time.

Most challenging model kit I ever built: They are all a challenge each and every time.

The finished model kit I am most proud of: I like them all but my favorites include some of the mounted figures.

The worst project I ever did: Probably a ship model that caused me to give the whole ship building thing up. It never even got finished.

Since joining the LAMS Club I have learned “how to” or “improved”: Watching some of the other “painters” has been educational and inspiring. The overall talent in the Club is phenomenal.

Name something you would like to build or model that you’ve never attempted: Some of the more intricate uniforms such as tartans. Anything with a very fine small detail is beyond me.

Did you ever destroy a model? If so, how did you do it? : Never destroyed a Model, but certainly abandoned some.

Have you entered any competitions? Yes, but I wasn’t much of a competitor.

If yes, which ones? Southern California Historical Miniature Society (SCAHMS)

Received any Awards or Recognition? I could paper a wall with Certificate of Merit.

Every modeler purchases more kits than they can build. How many kits are in the garage, closet, or storage waiting to be built? Not too many since I complete before buying another.

What is the one kit that you’ve searched for that you still can’t find? The Holy Grail of figures

What is the best part of the club for you? Seeing and talking to all the multitalented guys and gals. It’s a great group of very friendly people!
